What Are We Doing Wrong?

C:WindowsTempphp24D4.tmpHibs appear to be doing their utmost to avoid ending the season in second place of the Championship. Last night, finding themselves two up against rivals Falkirk, who were down to ten men, with three minutes to go some sort of cunning plan must have kicked in. The Easter Road side managed not only to allow Falkirk to score what was initially thought to be a consolation goal from David McCracken with three minutes to go but allowed the Bairns' Bob McHugh to score in the 90th minute to end the game 2-2. With two games is hand, Hibs sit six points behind Falkirk, who have a superior goal difference, with the end of the  the regular season less than  three weeks away.

With memories of how last season's play offs in mind, you would think Hibs would have learnt lessons ahead of then run in to this year's series of play off games. Perhaps they have, and have worked out some complicated way that they will come good in series of play off games. However, the reassurance that manager Alan Stubbs believes in his squad of players does not provide reassurance for the fans who pay the wages that the plan will work. Hibs could be world champions at losing things from winning positions if such a prize was on offer. The financial ramifications of remaining in the Championship for another season must be distracting those charged with managing the Easter Road books. Most clubs' pockets are only so deep and missing the financial gains from playing in the top flight could well be beyond the searching fingers of the Hibs accountants and cost cutting measures may have to be introduced.
