Westdyke Top Table And Championship And League One Cup Gets Underway

C:WindowsTempphp363C.tmpNortheast club Westdyke top the Scottish Women’s Championship table after two games, while promoted sides Queen of the South and Bonnyrigg Rose are through to round two of the Scottish Women’s Championship and League One Cup at the first attempt.

Newly-promoted Westdyke continued their early goalscoring early with a 6-3 victory over Morton at home. Doubles from last season’s League One top scorer Kayleigh Traynor and winger Naomi Lind added to strikes from Bethany Cochrane and Cara Craig, bookended an attempted comeback by Morton through a Laura Darroch free kick and goals from Gracie Cairney and Taylor Cumberbatch.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle also made it two wins in two with Ellie Anderson scoring the only goal of the game against Ayr United, while Renfrew were held at home to a 1-1 draw by Dryburgh Athletic thanks to a penalty save from Chantelle McKay for the Dundee side and Dryburgh captain Laura Boag cancelling out Sammyjo Smith’s opener for the hosts.

Glasgow side Rossvale weathered a second-half attempted comeback by East Fife after goals from Mel Porter, Jemma McQuillan and Fiona Cullie had put them ahead to win 3-2 at Bayview.

Edinburgh City were awarded a 3-0 victory after Hutchison Vale withdrew from the Edinburgh derby.

In the Championship and League One cup a dramatic penalty shoot-out saw Stenhousemuir through to the next round at the expense of St Mirren. A 90th minute equaliser for 2-2 from a corner by Stenny sent the tie extra time. Both sides scored another in extra time, but it was the home side who kept their nerve for the spot kicks.

Bonnyrigg Rose knocked Dundee West out with a 6-2 victory, while Queen of the South came from behind to beat Giffnock SC 5-1. Falkirk are also through after a 3-0 victory at BSC Glasgow, while Edinburgh Caledonia knocked Forfar Farmington out with a 2-0 victory.

Buckie Ladies remain top of the ScottishPower Highlands & Islands league after a narrow 1-0 victory over Caithness, but Orkney keep pace in second after coming from behind to beat Sutherland 3-2.

In the regional SWFL, Harmony Row top the South league after beating new club Ardrossan Winton Rovers 6-0, and Linlithgow Rose are ahead of Dunfermline Athletic on goal difference at the top of the East league after beating East Fife Development 4-0. Dunipace are top of the West league after winning 5-0 against Cumbernauld Colts.
