Scotland Too Hot To Handle

Anna SigneulScotland's women made a great start to their EURO2013 qualifying campaign with a 6-1 win over Israel in Ness Ziona. The game was played in heat of 32 degrees - in the shade - which would be a challenge for any side. This did not put Anna Singeul's side off their stride and they made a great start being two goals to the good before 10 minutes were on the clock thanks to Jane Ross and Jennifer Beattie.  The other goals came in the second half from Kim Little (two) and Hayley Lauder. Israel's captain, Moran Lavi, scored the sixth goal for Scotland. There was an understandable need for Scotland to pace themselves in the game and this is when Lavi scored in the right net for Israel in 35 minutes.

Speaking to me on the phone after the game, Singeul said: "I was very pleased with the whole squad and the officials who made all the arrangements for today. We made a great start thanks to Jane (Ross) and Jennifer (Beattie) but felt we went into a little dip after half an hour which is when they scored. We had a water break around the twenty minute mark due to the heat. There was no shade on the playing surface which made things difficult for the players. However, I was really proud of how they coped after the goal by Israel and made sure in the second half that we were never in any danger."

This result is on the back of a 7-2 home win ina friendly against Denmark in somewhat chillier conditions at Tynecastle. Scotland now wait to play Wales at Tynecastle on 27 October in their group which is led by France who have played two games already.
