He can add this trophy to his Scottish Cup winners medal and Scotland cap thanks to his many eye-catching performances during the league campaign. McGinn won his first cap, along with man of the match award, on 29 March when Scotland beat Denmark at Hampden. Despite the Player of the year award being a distinctly personal one, McGinn believes that he would not have won it had it not been for the form of his team-mates as well. Reflecting on his other individual awards this season, the midfielder is targeting more of the same next campaign and is hopeful of continuing to add to his burgeoning collection of personal awards – as well as team ones.

He said: "I'm delighted to get voted the best player in the league. It’s a massive achievement for me and I think it's a big credit to all the boys in the dressing room. Even though I’ve been recognised personally, it's a team award. It has been a crazy season for me, the Scotland cap was something that was unexpected at the start of the season, but something I’m delighted with. Hopefully I can carry that on next season and get more accolades."
