The last game of the year is one to remember for Motherwell but for all the wrong reasons. The on-loan Blackpool defender Peter Hartley was sent off after his side's 3-1 loss at home to Hamilton. The centre-back was shown a straight red card by referee Andrew Dallas for barging Dougie Imrie after the final whistle, having earlier conceded a penalty and gifted a goal. The hosts were leading through Craig Tanner's third-minute goal when Hartley was penalised for handball. Imrie levelled from the spot four minutes before half-time. Hartley's sliced clearance then allowed Rakish Bingham to score and Greg Docherty sealed Hamilton's first win over their Lanarkshire rivals in eight games. Hartley was then involved in a post-match melee as he ran into Imrie as the Accies player and Motherwell goalkeeper Trevor Carson squared up. He left the field before any action was taken but later received a red card which will rule him out of the Scottish Cup game between the teams in three weeks' time. It was an ninth game without a win for Motherwell, who are now just one point ahead of Accies in eighth place in the Scottish Premiership. |
