Johnston Wants More Sharpness Tomorrow

C:WindowsTempphpDB96.tmpRugby Park manager Allan Johnston is looking for more of a cutting edge when Kilmarnock host Partick Thistle on Saturday. Killie have failed to score in three of their last four games, although Josh Magennis saw a goal disallowed for an infringement following a corner in their 1-0 League Cup defeat to St Johnstone at Rugby Park on Tuesday.

Johnston said: "You need to score goals to win games and that's maybe the only thing you could criticise us for, that we never took the chances we created. We have to make sure we are clinical when we get in those positions. But there was a lot of good play and a lot of positives and obviously we were disappointed with the goal that wasn't given."

Kilmarnock are four points above Thistle in the Premiership table but Johnston feels the summer signings of Ryan Stevenson, Jake Carroll, Dan Seaborne and Nathan Eccleston mean the Jags are a stronger side than last season. He went on: "They are a good passing team and have good players like (Kallum) Higginbotham. And they have strengthened by bringing in Stevenson, a centre-half and a left-back as well. They have strengthened their team and I'm sure they will be a big threat. But we are at home and we have to make sure we win games like this."
