Motherwell reported their first deficit for six years with the announcement of their figures up to 31 May 2009. The club blamed the £703,391 loss for the year to the demise of Setanta TV, essential and on-going pitch repairs and the failure to reach the top six in the SPL with the income generated from plying the final five games against the top clubs. However, things are different this year with top-six status already secured and chairman John Boyle promising that the position will be one of profit in a year's time. The Fir Park pitch and undersoil heating has undergone expensive repairs over the last two summers, with £350,000 spent in 2009. Boyle said: "Following this loss the club took decisive action and I am pleased to confirm that Motherwell Football Club will return to profit for the financial year ending May 31, 2010. The club is fortunate to be one of the few in the SPL with no bank debt, which enhances our financial position." |
