Stenhousemuir 4 Dundee 1

wet weather trainingThank goodness for summer football. The artificial pitch at Ochilview was up to the deluge that decided to visit Stenhousemuir just 30 minutes before kick-off but I am not sure I was up to it. Both sides were struggling to get themselves warmed up despite the encouragement of the respective coaches as the rain lashed down.

Wiliams celebratesHowever, all that changed as the game got underway as the weather turned to blinding sunshine. The visitors were playing in white and in the first half could well have been running up the white flag. Two goals in the first half saw Stenny 1-0 up in the ninth minute thanks to Alex Williams and 2-0 in the 17 minute from Grant Anderson. Both goals were worthy of a larger crowd. The first was a well worked move between Willie Lyle who passed a free-kick to Anderson who found Williams who gave Scott Fox no chance. The second was a real cracker. Stephen Murray, who was having a great game and linking up well with Anderson all game, fairly shot down the left before crossing a great ball for Anderson, who was on the right hand corner of the visitors box, who just rifled the ball into Fox's goal past his despairing right hand and into the corner of the net. two up and in easy street to be honest. Dundee were huffing a puffing but it was Stenhousemuir who were making and taking their chances.

Anderson celebratesSecond half and it looked as if Dundee were not going to have any luck at all. In the 55th minute they were queuing up to get the ball past Chris McClusky but somehow or other managed to get either his hand of boot or body to everything Dundee could send into the box. They finally got the ball into the net but a hand ball prevented it counting. Just when t
hey thought it was not their night, it was confirmed in the 63rd minute when Paul Quinn scored the third for the home side. Quinn had taken Williams' place at half time and he got on the scoresheet with a screaming  Dundee scoredrive from 20 yards which arrowed into the top corner. Leigh Griffiths pulled one back for Dundee with 15 minutes left after Chris McCluskey could only palm out a corner but Kevin Motion, another substitute, completed the scoring in the 83rd minute from Murray's pass. His mazy run into the box on the left left the visiting defence bemused and his shot left Fox fuming.
