Former Cowdenbeath boss Craig Levein sent Tannadice starlet Gary Kenneth to deepest Fife to "get his head straight" but the 19-year-old defender, who is set to use his time in the Kingdom to sharpen up for the Under-20 World Cup, has responded to the challenge.

Former United pick now Cowdenbeath boss, Brian Welsh, who secured Premier League football for the Arabs with a play-off winner in the mid 1990's, was full of praise for Kenneth midweek and highlighted his performance as one of the best in Cowden's 2-1 win over Forfar last Saturday.

The Blue Brazil boss said: "
Gary is an old head on young shoulders and he responded well in the game last weekend. He'll play again at Stranraer on Sunday and I can have no complaints about his work rate for us."

Good news for Craig Levein who complained earlier this week that Kenneth was being banished to Central Park because he was just getting a bit too big for his boots. Levein said: "
You don't tell people you were being chased by Chelsea at 17 when you are 19, you wait until you are 35 and then list all you achievements in the game, that's how you identify a professional footballer. "

Cowden are likely to go with a three man defence as they look to secure three points at Stair Park and cement their place in Division 2. The Cowdenbeath Supporters Club has slashed bus prices to a fiver for the Sunday trip to Wigtownshire and loyal Blue Brazilians are incouraging as many locals as possible to go south-west on the traditional day of rest to cheer Cowden to safety.

Brain Welsh said: "
Stranraer away is traditionally a tough game for Cowdenbeath usually due to geography and the fact 'Raer can make Stair Park a bit of a fortress sometimes but we go there on the back of our first home since December 23rd so we reckon some corners are now being turned. We were lots of peoples favourites for the play-off spot at the bottom of Division 2 at the start of the month but I have always said we are a better team than we are given credit for."

Cowden have been the nemesis of both Robert Connor at Ayr Utd and George Shaw at Forfar recently as both manager's were sacked within 24 hours of defeats at the hands of the Fifers so Gerry Britton beware!

The former Partick Thistle and Dunfermline hitman is confident his Blues can survive any play-off gainst the three sides looking to join the Div 3 Champions upstairs next season.

Britton said : "
We watch Third Division games all the time when we are scouting for new players so I have a dossier on all the clubs we could end up facing in a play-off situation. I feel we are still strong enough to escape from second bottom but I am confident we can take on two Third Division sides and beat them to secure our place in Division 2 if that's how it turns out."

Stranraer v Cowdenbeath and Forfar v Morton are Sunday's Div 2 matches, both with 3 pm starts.
