Still Fighting To Find The Desire

Hearts are still hopeful of making it back onto the European stage and striker Michal Pospisil help them on Saturday with a 78th-minute winning header against Kilmarnock at Tynecastle. He had feared it would be another season before European football entertained the Hearts fans after their capitulation against Dundee United three weeks ago. Saturday was not the best performance from Hearts but it was a big improvement on their previous game at Tynecastle - the 4-0 defeat by United. Since then, Hearts have beaten Hibs away and Saturday's 1-0 win leaves them just three points behind third-placed Aberdeen in the league. Czech Pospisil said: "It was very important because the last home game we didn't play well, we didn't have much confidence after dropping points at home. I felt frustrated and embarrassed after the Dundee United game because I didn't expect it could happen. We can lose the game but not the way we lost. There wasn't desire. I was worried but fortunately we have lifted ourselves up. We had critical words after the game in the dressing room because every player in a Hearts jersey has to feel responsibility for the club. I hope the players realise the attitude we have to show."

Pospisil wasted little time to score the winner after coming off the bench in the 70th minute. Hearts fans were wondering where a goal would come from after watching sole striker Andrius Velicka being replaced by winger Neil McCann 10 minutes earlier. The change was greeted by widespread disapproval, not least by the Lithuanian himself, who had looked isolated in his lone frontman role. Pospisil said: "
I was surprised a little bit because I expected I would play, because the game was 0-0 and I think we should take a risk. It's not a risk just to put a striker on the pitch. But I went to warm up and waited for my chance. We have got lots of players so sometimes we use the rotation system. But at the moment we don't have many strikers with injuries, so of course I expected more opportunities on the pitch."
