Cove Rangers 2 Deveronvale 1

Last updated : 22 March 2008 By Alex Horsburgh

Baltic conditions at Cove Bay and fired up tempers were apparent on the field of play in this crucial Highland League encounter.

It was six bookings and a sending off for Vale and 1 booking and 1 sending off for Cove at the end. The Cove dismissal came after just 3 minutes when Tindall of Cove fouled Robertson of the Banff side and everyone waded in for a good old "rammy" in the centre circle.

The outcome was referee Northcroft sending off Cove's Eric Watson. Tindall was booked and so was Chisholm of Vale.

Chisholm gave Vale the lead in 19 minutes, poking home a rebound after Mike Ewen's shot came back off the post. However, the game was turned on it's head five minutes from half time. Ritchie Livingstone then Barrie Stephen netted excellent shots within 60 seconds of each other to shock the visitors who had gone 470 minutes without conceding before this game and they had only lost one league game all season, their first of the campaign at Inverurie Locos.

The second half saw no more scoring but plenty of yellow card action and Scott Fraser of Deveronvale went for a second yellow with 20 minutes left to leave it 10 v 10 at the end.

Final score 2-1 for Cove who are still chasing Buckie at the top of the HFL. Buckie won 2-4 at Wick while Huntly netted 8 without reply at Fort William.
