Tough Draw

Last updated : 06 December 2002 By Ed_ScottishFitba

Scotland's women senior squad have been landed in a difficult group alongside defending champions Germany in the UEFA Women's Championship 2003-05, which was drawn yesterday (Thursday). This is the first time the women have reached such heady heights and what a debut! Alongside the Germans, Scotland will also face Ukraine, Portugal and the Czech Republic. The fixtures will be decided early next year, but the Scottish women are already looking forward to the challenge. A SFA spokesperson said: "It is a very difficult group and the squad are under no illusions how it will be against the defending champions, but options are open for the runners up positions."

The four group winners will go through automatically to the final tournament to be held in England in 2005. The remaining three places will be decided in a play off between the runners up and two best third placed teams.
