Scotland Stride On

Last updated : 17 October 2002 By Ed_ScottishFitba
It is not only Berti Vogts that has had a good week with a Scotland team. Scotland's Under 19 women's team
were playing in the 1st phase of UEFA's Under 19 Championship over in Bulgaria this week. They overcame all opposition and ended top of their group. The women had a tough group to get out of as only one team were to qualify.

Scotland had already beaten Northern Ireland (3-0) last Saturday and Israel (3-1) on Monday when they were due to meet Russia on Wednesday. Russia and Scotland could not be separated at the top of the group as they both had won 2, scored 6 goals and conceded one. However, Scotland's determination and team spirit won the day in a hard fought match. The Russians were no pushovers, but thanks to goals from Suzanne Grant and Donna James, Scotland won 2-1 to top the group. James goal made her top scorer with a tally for the games of 4. Scotland now go into the draw for the next round which will be made on 5th November.
