Go West Young Women

Last updated : 30 August 2002 By Ed_ScottishFitba

We reported a while ago that Scotland's women's team had been invited to travel to the USA to take on the world champions on their own patch. Scotland have decided to go for a youthful squad, with two players aged just 16, to travel to Columbus, Ohio, for the match on 8th September. The16 year old players are Joanne Love and Megan Sneddon, midfielders at Kilmarnock LFC. It will be quite a trip for Megan as she celebrates her 17th birthday the day after the match.

Captain Fleeting
This will be rather a tough game for the Scots to take on as their first one since national coach Vera Pauw left to head home to Holland. You will remember that Scotland's captain, Julie Fleeting, has made an impact in the women's professional league with San Diego Spirit. She should be able to provide some insight to the rest of the team to allay their fears. The Americans have named a full strength squad, including famous players such as Mia Hamm and Brandi Chastain.
