Scotland Head Home Early (Again!)

Last updated : 25 July 2005 By Ed_ScottishFitba

A hard lesson was learnt by Scotland women's Under 19 team as they finished their first ever UEFA Finals tournament with a heavy defeat. They lost 5-0 to Russia in Hungary tonight (Monday). The young women had to win against Russia to stand a slim mathematical chance of making it to the semi-finals. Unfortunately, the Russians had ambitions of their own and it was all one way traffic in the wrong direction. Elena Danilova scored a hat trick as the Russians swept into the semi-finals. In the other group match, France and England drew 1-1.

While it is a huge disappointment and an early departure for Tony Gervaise's team, they can take immense credit for their determination to attack in the first two games. The experience gained during the tounament will stand many of the women in good stead as the strive to take the step up to the full national team.
