Scotland 1 USA 1

Scotland's first game in the Ballymena Tournament ended in a 1-1 draw against the USA last night. The Under 16s tournament gives the youngsters a taste of international competition which it is hoped will not be their last.

Scotland opened the scoring, against the run of play, on the 30 minute mark when Motherwell's Robert McHugh sent in an unstoppable right foot drive. It was not until the end of the game that the Americans' managed to get a goal back. Three minutes from time, the referee awarded an indirect free kick inside the box for a passback to the goalkeeper. Striker Parker Walsh scored from the set piece and the game finished all-square.

There is not much time for the team to re-examine what went wrong as they will be playing the Republic of Ireland today and the Czech Republic on Wednesday.
