Any alien monitoring social media from 18 November will think Scotland is populated by fat blokes hugging each other after watching a small spherical into a net for the 1,000th time. After nearly thirty years of disappointment is was a surprise to see so many Scots remembering what to do when qualification was secured.A 4-2 straight win is a decent way to end a campaign. No need for calculators and relying on other results. About time Scotland grew up and achieved something on their own. The actual game was a real roller coaster with a bit of Hokey Cokey about it as the goals went scored. Scotland were in, out, in again then out of the World cup. Thankfully, Kieran Tierney stopped the music in Scotland’s favour with Kenny McLean closing the record player for the night in the last minute. With the draw for the group stage of the World Cup taking place on 5 December, all flights to USA, Canada and Mexico are being monitored to keep tabs on suitable flights. The flight prices will instantly increase as the draw is made. However, some fans will pay whatever the price is to head to the Americas to be part to the adventure. There will be travellers’ tales from previous excursions across the Atlantic dragged up as the match dates are agreed. Everybody with a room to spare in the match location environs will be registering with AirBnB to offer accommodation. Those prices will also increase as the match days draw closer. Every relative in the north Americas will have had calls, emails and smoke signals from distant relatives checking if they can put fans up for the duration. I look forward to reading about the adventures of the latest generation of representatives following Scotland as they take on the top teams in the world. The ninety minutes of each game will be torture of course. But Scotland only do that to make us feel alive which is not that bad. |
