You really have to live in Scotland to realise how much this shirt is loathed by most Tartan Army foot soldiers, especially those over 40, who remember Wembley 77 and the clean lines and classic collar of that Umbro kit the day goals from Gordon McQueen and Kenny Dalglish sunk the English 2-1. That was the time Scotland took home the Wembley goalposts and most of the pitch as a collective souvenir of their first win in London for ten years. In the mid 1970's Scotland sported an all white Leeds Utd lookalike away kit that was popular too. Adidas say this is a best seller but Scotland fans of a certain vintage and non-hipsters of all ages would happily have a sacrificial burning of this shirt outside Hampden Park..and ofcourse there is the chance of the ultimate embarrassment as Scotland might wear it at Wembley in the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers now FIFA have such strict rules on colour clashes. There's an awful lot of white in the Scotland Home shirt these days so be afraid..be very afraid! Yes, the Scots may walk out to face the Auld Enemy in London wearing THIS.

"You’ve take that too far pal" is the phrase that springs to mind as Dundee FC ditch their traditional Dark Blue in an attempt to get ex-pat support on their tour of South Africa in the 1950’s.. Surely a Dundonian accent and coming from the city that invented the Broons and Oor Wullie plus the Beano and the Dandy comics makes you Scottish enough! Maybe this is where Umbro got the idea for Scotland's Euro 96 shirt! Nobody knows if the Dundee team had half time shortbread instead of oranges or enjoyed a pre-match showing of Brigadoon with Gene Kelly.

A couple of seasons before local band Wet Wet Wet sponsored the then Scottish League club somebody who might have been a bit high high high came up with this shirt. Either that or the local primary 1 class got to it with crayons.. Made by Matchwinner, who also made kits for St Johnstone and Greenock Morton in the 1990's, the sponsors logo on this bad Acid trip of a garment maybe should have read How come!?

4. Scotland Away (late 1990’s)
This was the first of Scotland's occasional pink shirts which is meant to be a homage to Lord Roseberry who gave the Scottish National team a lot of money and allowed them to play in his racing colours of salmon pink and yellow in the early years of international football. The Scots did manage to beat the Germans 1-0 in Germany wearing this shirt in 1999 thanks to a Don Hutchison goal but maybe the home team couldn’t play
for laughing at the time!

Another Umbro experiment which somehow managed to trump their suspender belt Scotland shorts of the 1986 World Cup and our shortbread tin look of Euro 96. Is the design meant to represent the Scottish weather forecast (more thunder storms moving in from the west) or is it a homage to our glorious hills and mountains? Trainspotting was out at the time we wore this kit but if Renton, played by Ewan McGregor, was telling us to "choose life" at the time  it is doubtful he was telling us to choose this shirt for anything but a duster!
