C:WindowsTempphp1813.tmpQueen of the South managed to overcome Linfield in extra-time in today's Irn-Bru Cup game. There was a healthy contingent of Linfield supporters from over the water and a minutes silence was held before the game in memory of one of number, Ryan Baird, who was killed in the coach crash when he was on his way to Ibrox. On 39 minutes the entire crowd of 2,358 joined in with a round of applause for Baird. The game went to extra time thanks to some poor finishing by the Doonhamers but mainly due to the performance of Linfield goalkeeper, Roy Carroll, who almost single handedly kept the hosts at bay, and in the end it took two excellent goals to eventually find a way past the veteran stopper and secure a way into the next round for Gavin Skelton`s team.

The question of Welsh and Irish teams being invited to play in a Scottish competition will be examined once the cup has been won but the fans did not appear to be too bothered at the games involving Bala Town, The New Saints (TNS) and Linfield. TNS made it through to the quarter finals and will find out their opponents on Monday when the draw will be made. I am willing to bet they will be hoping for a home tie to make the most of their Scottish adventure.
