Scottish Gas has unveiled a
special matchday activation designed to help Auchinleck Talbot supporters feel at
home after their fourth-round Scottish Gas Scottish Cup tie against Celtic was moved
from Beechwood Park to Rugby Park.
The game, which will take place on Sunday 18 January (17:30 kick-off) at Rugby Park,
Kilmarnock, was relocated due to concerns over Beechwood Park’s capacity to host
such a high-profile game. While the decision addressed operational concerns, it removed the opportunity for the
non-league side to host one of the biggest matches in the club’s history at their
traditional home.
In response, Scottish Gas has worked alongside Auchinleck Talbot, the SFA, and
Kilmarnock to temporarily recreate elements of Beechwood Park inside Rugby Park
on matchday, helping preserve the sense of identity, belonging, and home advantage
that mean so much to every club and their supporters.
The activation will include temporary Beechwood stand naming for the Auchinleck end,
Beechwood-inspired dressing-room and tunnel branding, replica signage at supporter
entrances, the continuation of familiar matchday rituals, and the distribution of
Auchinleck Talbot merch to fans attending the game.
Tommy Sloan, Manager of Auchinleck Talbot, said:
"Beechwood Park is more than just a stadium to us. It’s part of who we are as a club
and a community. This is a massive occasion for everyone connected with Talbot, and
Scottish Gas have really understood what that means. Bringing elements of Beechwood
to Rugby Park will make a huge difference to our players and supporters on such an
important day."
Chris O’Shea, Group Chief Executive of Centrica, owner of Scottish Gas, added:
"When circumstances change, we believe it’s important to take care of the people
affected. These actions aren’t just about the venue, it’s about the fans, the traditions
and making sure it still feels like home when it matters most."
