Pitch in and Socc it to 'Em!

Alex Salmond, Ex-Leader of the Opposition, Scottish Parliament

Now that England's World Cup 2006 dream is over, we must all focus on Scotland's bid for the Euro 2008 championships.

New Labour was "fully committed" to England's bid and more than 75 per cent of the £10m funding for the bid came from our pockets through the public sector.

The SNP expects the same full commitment and funding for Scotland's Euro bid. But it needs people power behind it to succeed. They must be included in every step of the process to foil those who think we're too wee and we've no chance.

Your opinions and your ideas count. As the Editor puts it: "Scotland hosting the European Championships in 2008 would provide a boost to our economy, it would sell Scotland to the rest of Europe - and beyond.

"It would provide a massive stage on which the Scottish nation can unite." I couldn't agree more.

Alex Salmond, MSP and MP
