The end of an era has been confirmed with the announcement that James Tavernier will be leaving Rangers after 11 years with the Ibrox club. He has been a consistent performer for the club through all their recent travails. He has been a leader in the tradition of John Greig, Barry Ferguson and Ally McCoist. These guys were blue through and through and Tavernier was not slow to gain the respect and support of the often fickle Rangers support. He played 562 times for Rangers, scoring 144 goals not too bad for a defender. Of course, many will point to his goals tally including penalties but a goal is a goal.

He could be relied upon to always be up for the fight no matter how difficult the situation on or off the pitch. Calm in a crisis he often steadied the ship even when called on from the subs bench. Players around him relaxed when they saw Tavernier stripped and ready for action. Calm on and off the field he can be considered a Rangers great and an excellent servant to the club.

No mention has been made of where Tavernier will be playing next but you can be assured many a club will be considering if their funds could entice him to strip off for them next season.
