2035 Set To Be Huge Opportunity For Girls In Scotland

Fifa president Gianni Infantino has announced that the joint home nations bid for the 2035 Women’s World Cup was the only ‘valid’ bid. England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland submitted a joint expression of interest in March to hold the World Cup across the home nations.  The 2031 World Cup will be held in the United States. Infantino said: "Today I can confirm as part of the bidding process that we received one bid for 2031 and one valid bid for 2035," Infantino said at a Uefa congress in Belgrade. The 2031 bid is the United States of America and potentially some other Concacaf members and the 2035 bid is from Europe and the home nations. So the path is there for the Women's World Cup in 2031 and 2035 to take place in some great nations and further boost the women's football movement."

Responding Scottish Women’s Football CEO Aileen Campbell said: “The significance of this announcement to women and girls in Scotland cannot be understated. Visibility is everything in women’s sport, and the potential impact of hosting the world’s biggest women’s football event on the host nation’s grassroots game can be a game-changer.  We are already seeing unprecedented growth in the grassroots women’s and girls’ game in Scotland, from the ScottishPower Youth Challenge Cup to the Barclays Scottish Women’s Championship. In a decade’s time, who can tell how many women and girls will be welcoming the giants of world football to the UK?”
