Dunfermline 1 Queen of the South 1 (QOS win on pens)

Last Updated : 11-Aug-2010 by Alex Horsburgh

QOS clinched their third successive win at East End Park in the Alba Cup after a thrilling penalty shoot-out following a non-scoring Extra Time period. After Ryan McGuffie levelled it at 5-5 in a round of perfect pens, Andy Dowie's spot kick hit the crossbar to send Queens through.

David Weatherston put Queens ahead in the 53rd minute when he curled a right-footed shot into the bottom corner. David Graham's own curling effort for the Pars hit the post before Andy Kirk lashed in an 82nd-minute equaliser in what was, by that time, turning into a rip-roaring cup tie in front of the only four figure attendance on the night of the last 16. The Pars can count themselves unfortunate to go out before the Quarter Final stage but Queens must surely now be one of the favourites to progress to the final after a gritty performance in the Kingdom.
