Three goals in the opening half an hour knocked the stuffing out of a hapless East Fife side in this Co-op Insurance Cup derby at Starks Park. That two of the goals had more than a suspicion of offside about them was little consolation as a fragile defence appeared all at sea for the first period, not helped by a midfield that seemed intent on conceding possession in dangerous areas.
Credit to the Fifers, they did come out fighting after the break and pulled a goal back within four minutes, Bobby LINN hitting a sweet curling free-kick into the top corner of the net with McGurn beaten all ends up. Two minutes later it should really have been two when Robert Sloan's effort from point blank range was saved by the keeper. East Fife's best spell of the match however proved too little too late as Raith began to create chances at the other end.
In 74 minutes substitute Jamie MOLE's clever flick past Michael Brown effectively ended the game as a contest and it was back to damage limitation for the Fifers. Not a good day at the office for Stevie Crawford's men. |
