Raith won a fine victory over battling Accies in the Co-Operative Cup on Tuesday night with a Mark Ferry goal being the difference.
Raith’s John nearly scored in the first minute but shot over from just outside the box at the end of a run through the centre of the pitch when he latched onto a pass from Tade.
Two minutes later Joel Thomas missed for Accies as he side-footed a shot across the face of goal.
The rest of the first half was devoid of genuine quality - Walker’s free kick was saved by Hamilton keeper Tomas Cerny.. Just before half time Marco Paixao won the ball in midfield and passed to Thomas but the shot was comfortably held by the Raith keeper.
The second half opened with a fifteen minute period dominated by Raith despite the obvious physical size and athleticism of their Premiership opponents.
Gregory Tade has settled in well at Raith and the former Stranraer man was at the heart of many moves. Tade skinned Gillespie on the left and put in a cross which put the ball on the plate for the onrushing Allan Walker just three yards out but incredibly he skied the ball over the ball when it was far easier to score.
Tade was at the heart of the winning goal - his shot was parried by Cerny into the path of Mark Ferry who gratefully accepted his chance.
Raith had a chance to double their lead in the 83 minute was Derek Lyle fouled Ferry in the box to give Raith a penalty. Lyle was joined in the referees notebook by colleagues Mensing and Imrie due to their over-forceful protests. However, Gregory Tade’s shot was saved by Cerny.
