After 5 months on the sidelines, Ross McCormack wants to make up for lost time.

Ross McCormack enjoyed his first start for Motherwell since August after thinking he would not play again this season. The former Rangers player looked lively in the 0-0 draw with St Mirren on Tuesday after a season disrupted by illness. The young forward aims to make the most of the rest of the season after being knocked off course by a virus and an overactive thyroid. McCormack hopes to form a striking partnership with Scott McDonald who has 12 goals already this season. McCormack said: "
To be honest, I didn't know I was going to play again this season. But now I'm back and I've started in the middle of February. I just want to keep playing and get as many appearances as I can. They were talking about an operation on my neck not so long ago, and it is a bonus to be back playing so early. I prefer playing behind but I'll play anywhere, and it's a joy playing up front with Scotty because he's such a good player. If the two of us play together from now to the end of the season, I think both of us will score a lot of goals."

McCormack was pleased to get a run-out eight days before the Lanarkshire side's home clash with St Johnstone in the Tennent's Scottish Cup quarter-finals. He said: "
I'm a little bit tired. I got a bit of cramp towards the end. I played about 85 minutes, which is about 25 more than I expected, but it went well. Obviously, I'm looking to keep my place but I'm not going to be too disappointed. I'm glad to be back. But to play in a quarter-final would be special." Well boss Maurice Malpas was eager to give McCormack a game with the cup tie and the run-in to the SPL split coming up. Malpas said: "We just felt he needed to get a game. We have got a lot of games coming up and we needed to bring his fitness on. I was reasonably pleased with Ross. It's a case of how he reacts, and we'll check his fitness in training after a few days off."
