Time Running Out For Dunfermline

Dunfermline remain nine points adrift at the bottom of the SPL after Saturday's draw against second bottom St Mirren. Pars defender Scott Wilson admitted the result was a "sickener" as they failed to make progress on their relegation rivals. Despite creating a handful of goal-scoring opportunities throughout the game, Stephen Kenny's team failed to convert any and only emerged with a single point. There are only eight games left for Dunfermline and their SPL status is under severe threat. Next stop on the journey that no club enjoys is to Inverness next Saturday. With St Mirren having a free weekend the club hopes to make some progress to close the gap. However, Wilson admits they face an uphill struggle trying to retain their status as a top-flight club.

The dejected vice-captain said: "
It is a sickener, there is no doubt about it. It will be difficult there is no doubt about it, everyone away from this club will be saying that it's done and dusted but we have got to believe we can pull this back. There are still plenty games to go but the downside is that St Mirren can obviously pick up points as well. I think you feel sorry for yourself and probably for the club, but definitely for yourself. No boy in that dressing room wants to play in the first division. We are now coming up for the split and, going into the bottom half, you are probably looking at teams that are safe and they sometimes don't play their strongest teams. But it's going to be very difficult now with the nine points between us."

St Mirren's Gus MacPherson opted to play Stewart Kean as his lone striker to frustrate the hosts, Dunfermline were encouraged to attack throughout the 90 minutes. Stevie Crawford and Jim Hamilton both went close before the break but it was after the interval that they began to cause real problems. Buddies goalkeeper Chris Smith had to look smart to deny the Pars twice in the same move. Hamilton's cushioned volley was only parried by the goalkeeper who then blocked Crawford's follow-up before Adam Hammill blasted wide. Wilson admits their inability to find the net is the main factor in their predicament. He went on: "
I think that game summed up our season. As a team we have not scored enough goals. We had little half chances but a little bit of luck in front of goal has not been going for us all season. We have not closed games to get points and we have not won enough this season."
