The Great Escape

Cowdenbeath's see-saw season continued on Saturday when they once again won themselves a get-out-of-jail-free card with a 2-0 win at one of their recognised "
bogey" grounds at Peterhead.

Now the Fifers will hope to win against doomed Forfar at Central Park this Saturday and ease the pressure on head coach Brian Welsh while the Bloo Toon and Stranraer slug it out in a third-bottom v second bottom encounter at Stair Park.

A great weekend for the Blue Brazil was completed when one of their brightest prospects put pen to paper on a contract that keeps him at the club until 2009. Despite only being 16 Stephen Husband has been a revelation in the Blue Brazil under-19's this term and has come on a couple of times from the bench to taste first team action.

Cowden assistant boss Danny Lennon said after the win at Balmoor Stadium: "
Everyone behind the scenes at Central Park is convinced that we are a better team than we are given credit for and than our league placing suggests. We produced a 2-0 win at Ayr when it looked as if we were about to go on a run of defeats and we pulled another result out of the hat in the north east on Saturday and it's well known Peterhead is a difficult place to go at any time during a season."

Stranraer, Peterhead, Alloa and Cowden are now the teams hoping to avoid second bottom place in Division 2 and a play-off with the 4th placed Third Division side first of all at the end of the campaign. The Blue Brazil and the Bloo Toon have a vastly superior goal difference to Stranraer making this Saturday's battle of Stair Park a real must win match for Gerry Britton and Steve Paterson.

Danny Lennon said: "
We must try and win well against Forfar on Saturday and that gives us breathing space going into two games in a matter of days against Stranraer, we also have Morton and Stirling coming up too so we have it in our own hands now to retain Second Division status."
