| Partick Thistle look backwards as they try to progress and bring back an old favourite to help creat some new ones.

And here is a story that you did not think you would be reading. Just before the transfer window closes, Partick Thistle have renewed their partnership with Chic Charnley. This will be the fourth time that Charnley has signed on at Firhill. He was planning to play as a trialist for East Stirlingshire on Saturday. However, an offer from Partick proved irresistible to the 39 year old. Manager John Lambie said Charnley had been signed to help the club's young players. But Lambie insisted that he would have no qualms about asking the veteran midfielder to step up to play in the first team if required.
Lambie said: "I went to a reserve game against Celtic and we were getting beat 5-1 at half-time. I felt the youngsters had no guidance on the park and Chic's been training here since the start of the season and he's in fantastic condition, so he will be able to help the young boys play. If you've still got the fitness and ability, age doesn't really matter. With our pool being so short, if we get any injuries, I'll be able to put him on the bench and he could come on for the last half-hour and possibly turn the game for us." Understandably, Charnley was delighted to have been given the chance to revive his playing career in the SPL. He said: "I've been in training here and the gaffer asked me if I'd be interested in helping bring along the kids. I'm going to play in reserve games to help the young ones, but if the opportunity arose to play in the first team, I'd be more than happy." The last time Charnley was playing in the SPL (with Hibs), there were calls for him to be drafted into the Scotland squad. Somehow I do not think Berti Vogts will be searching out Chic's phone number.
