Scottish Cup For Sale

After 18 years of the Scottish Cup being known as the Tennent's cup, the SFA are still looking for someone to take over sponsorship of their flagship tournament. The cup final takes place on 24 May and SFA Chief Executive Gordon Smith is ever hopeful that a new name will be starting an equally long association with the cup by then.

Smith said: "The commercial department are in discussions with people and hopefully it can happen because the Scottish Cup is still a major tournament as far as I'm concerned. The difficulty we had with Tennent's is that they were the sponsors so long. For many people it became the Tennent's Scottish Cup and it is difficult for anybody else to take that on board. But they have moved on and we need to get someone new. Who knows, maybe somebody might come in and take over in the rounds that are left? The Scottish Cup is getting to the crucial stages, just before the quarter-finals, so there is still a bit of mileage in the cup even for this season."
