Scottish Cup Drama - West Shines Over East

Last updated : 17 February 2008 By BTID

The Scottish Junior Cup looks to be heading West with Bathgate the only confirmed side in the last 8 after a narrow 1-0 win over Shotts Bon Accord. The opposition only in the competition by default after Pumpherston won 3-2 but were thrown out for fielding ineligible players. The tie and shock of the round was at Glenhead Park as 3/1 outsiders Clydebank stunned Lochee Utd 3-2 after trailing 2-1. Ex Dundee and Inverness striker Ritchie looked to have won it for Lochee after poor defending from the Bankies backline but a great Mark Hailstones strike and a thunderbolt from Alan Jack gave the Super 1st side a deserved victory. Another major shock seen much fancied Camelon crash out at the hands of Lanark Utd, who now reach the quarter finals for the second straight year. Its a fine achievement from the Central 1st side who currently top of the table.

However it wasn't all shocks, as Pollok edged out a potential tricky tie at Ballingry whilst Auckinlech beat fellow league opposition Neilston 2-0. Glenafton's excellent season continued with a home win to Musselburgh who knocked out Rob Roy in the previous round. The other tie played seen Thornton Hibs hold Maybole to a 1-1 draw as the cup's 50/1 shots could not be seperated. Newtongrange Star and Cumnock was postponed.
