Dundee, Aberdeen, St Johnstone and Hibs all have new players to get used to.

The introduction of the transfer windows has focused a number of teams' mind about just what they need to compete in their leagues. We try to keep up with the moves.

Aberdeen
have managed to get hold of former Paris St Germain midfielder Nicolas Fabiano at the second attempt. You may remember that the Dons brought around 6 French players over for trials in February of this year. They wanted Fabiano to join them then. However, the club did not overcome some transfer technicalities which would have allowed him to leave his French club, Istres, for nothing before last season's transfer deadline. Fabiano, who signed on with Aberdeen for a year, has some experience of the British game as he was on loan with Swansea City last year before joining Istres in September. The 21-year-old's contract at PSG expired at the end of last season and Ebbe Skovdahl was determined to bolster his squad ahead of this weekend's transfer deadline. Fabiano becomes the Dons' third new signing of the season

Dundee have gathered another two players before the transfer window closes till January. They have signed Garry Brady on a free transfer after he was released by Portsmouth in the summer. The 25-year-old has previously played for Norwich, Newcastle and Tottenham. The other new face at Dens Park will be Tom Hutchinson who has joined from Fulham. The 20-year-old defender never really made a first team place his own at Craven Cottage and hopes the move to Tayside will change his luck. The Fulham website sent Hutchison on his way with some nice words saying: "Tom has been an important member of the playing staff over recent seasons. On behalf of all staff and supporters, we would like to wish him the very best at his new club."

We told you that
Hibs were looking at new defenders. They have decided to sign Hungarian international Janos Matyus and Craig James. Matyus has 23 international caps to his name and has agreed to a one-year contract at Easter Road. James also signed on for a year but only on loan from Sunderland. Both players stand a chance of playing against Motherwell on Saturday. Manager Bobby Williamson said: "We are very short of left-sided players, so this pair will bring a balance and a freshness while Janus certainly has plenty of experience." Williamson believes the deals will suit both individuals and Hibs alike.

St Johnstone
have decided to strengthen their attack by signing former Huddersfield Town striker Chris Hay. He was another player who was released earlier this summer. This ended his agony of being frozen out by the Yorkshire club for the last two season. Saints manager Billy Stark is delighted to have managed to persuade Hay that he had something to offer the McDiarmid Park team. Stark said: "He's a wee bit behind the rest of the lads fitness-wise, but he's shown enough in his 10 days with us that he's still got all the qualities he showed in his Celtic days. He's only 28 and, to be honest, if he was in really good shape I think somebody else would have snapped him up when you look at his pedigree. I'm delighted to get Chris. He's scored goals in the English First Division, he's strong and quick and he'll definitely benefit us." Hay moved to Celtic as a youngster, from Griffnock North AFC, before moving on to Swindon Town and Huddersfield where he only made 21 starts.
