After all the kafuffle of recent weeks, the dust is beginning to settle again at Easter Road. In what is some quarters may be seen as an indication of where the spark came from that started the dressing room fire, Hibs boss John Collins has confirmed Michael Stewart's contract will not be renewed in the summer. Without coming out and pointing the finger directly at Stewart, whispers have it that he was at the forefront of the recent players revolt. Stewart joined the club two years ago, but will now be on the look-out for a new club in the summer, following Collins' decision not to offer an extension.

Collins insists football reasons have dictated his decision to release the midfielder, who is not expected to play for Hibs again this season. Collins released a statement which said: "
Michael has not been singled out in any way. He has not been disciplined in any way and the club will honour his contract. Any decisions taken have been taken for football reasons only. In point of fact, Michael approached the club within the past two weeks seeking clarification of his future. We have responded to provide the player with every opportunity to find himself a new club and we thank him for his contribution. All first-team players who are out of contract at the end of the season were written to at the same time and informed of the club's plans in relation to each of them individually. The club has done this to provide an early and honest indication to players so they can make their plans, and ask for an honest and quick response where appropriate."
