We only have one target - to stay up
Stephen Kenny admits Dunfermline received a welcome boost in their battle to avoid relegation ahead of their Tennent's Scottish Cup semi-final clash with Hibs at Hampden. The Pars, sitting uncomfortably at the bottom of the SPL, reduced the gap between themselves and St Mirren to four points with a 1-0 win over Sunday's Scottish Cup semi-final opponents at East End Park on Saturday. The next day, St Mirren lost 1-0 to Rangers which leaves the relegation battle to simmer gently while the Pars look forward to a trip to the national stadium at the weekend while the Saints kick their heels.

Manager Kenny said: "
We only have one target - to stay up, and we have to do whatever is required. But it was a good weekend for us. We were seven points adrift going into the weekend so the win over Hibs was definitely the result that we needed. There has never been a lack of confidence in the last month or two but you have to back that up with victories. We have done that in the last couple of weeks but we have to try to sustain it. We are four behind with five to go so we still have a lot of work to do. We have a real tough game coming up against Dundee United in the SPL but before that we have a semi-final against Hibs and the players have worked extremely hard to get there by beating Rangers, Hearts and Partick Thistle."

Kenny watched Hibs' 5-1 win over Kilmarnock in the CIS Insurance Cup final last month and knows what they can do when on form. But the Pars boss insists their victory over the Leith side at the weekend will have done his side no harm. He said: "
Hibs are overwhelming favourites but the fact that we won at the weekend means I am not asking the players to do something that they haven't done before. We were worthy winners against Hibs and while we acknowledge that this is a different game, nevertheless it's not an impossible task. I watched Hibs win the CIS Cup final and they were excellent. It was my first time at Hampden and I was glad that I had gone because I witnessed the atmosphere which was tremendous. Hibs brought 35,000 fans with them and they turned it and it was good for me to see that. This is an opportunity for us to get to a final and when they come you have to try and grasp them and do your utmost to get through. The Scottish Cup final is a tremendous occasion and Dunfermline have only been to one in the last 28 years so we have to do everything in our power to get there."
