Leaving For Liverpool After Fighting On Two Fronts

Winger Adam Hammill hopes to return to Liverpool in the summer with a medal in his pocket and a great escape behind him. The youngster arrived at East End Park in the middle of the January transfer window with the remit of toughening himself up before a return to Anfield. Little did he know that he would be involved in a relegation fight while at the same time getting ever closer to a chance of picking up a medal. Hammill is determined to help the Pars win their fight for survival and also add some metal to his packing in the summer.

He said: "
I'm here until the end of the season and then I have two years left at Liverpool. So winning the Scottish Cup and keeping Dunfermline in the SPL would be the perfect way to leave. When I first arrived at Dunfermline there was just an outside chance of me getting to Hampden as we were struggling at the bottom of the table and we had a couple of difficult ties against Hearts and Partick. But now we have a really good chance of getting to the final and staying up, and I will do my best to help Dunfermline finish the season in the best way possible."

Hammill has blown hot and cold since his arrival in Fife, but is relishing his first trip to the home of Scottish football. He said: "
I did well when I first came up, maybe because I was fresh blood, but my form has dipped in the last couple of games. I was rested but I came on fresh last weekend and caused problems for Hibs and set up the goal so I'm going into this game on a high. I've never been to Hampden before so it will be magical. It will be a great achievement for me, coming from youth football last year to playing in a Scottish Cup semi-final. Everyone is on a high because of last week's win and we are confident that we can get another victory."

Hammill believes other young English players would do well to follow his lead and spend some time in the SPL. He said: "
I would recommend players to come up to Scotland. The SPL doesn't get credit for having talented players but there is a lot of talent up here. People say to me, 'You're only doing it in Scotland', but it's harder than people think. I've played with good players and played against some great players. Playing at big stadiums like Celtic Park with 60,000 people in it has been a big help and it has improved my game a lot."
