My name is Mark Whitworth, and I live in Barnsley in South Yorkshire. I am currently organising the All Points North Charity Challenge, which will take place on 25-26 July 2004. Myself (an Evertonian) and 3 friends (Everton, Sunderland and Rotherham fans) will be attempting to visit all 42 football league grounds in Scotland in a single 24-hour period. We will be starting at Berwick Rangers at 6pm on Sunday 25 July, and hope to arrive at Ross County in Dingwall, 791 miles and 41 stops later, before 6pm the following day. As far as we know, this has never been attempted before, so we believe we will be setting a record (although if anyone knows different, I'll be happy to stand corrected!) as well as raising what we hope will be at least a 5-figure sum.
All money raised will be split between 2 charities - the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association and the National Kidney Research Fund. The Guide Dogs was my own choice, and the National Kidney Federation was the choice of Gregg Bellham, one of our co-organisers, who has been undergoing kidney dialysis for the past 2 years.
We will shortly be getting in touch with local and national media as we are hoping to publicise our appeal to a great extent. We have also been in touch with all 42 clubs to ask them if they will give us an item for auction.
In the meantime, I am trying to spread the word of our appeal by contacting as many Scottish football websites and messageboards as I can, in the hope of directing more visitors and potential donors to our website.
Unfortunately I won't be around much longer tonight, but if you would like to know more, please visit our website, www.scots42tour.co.uk, or e-mail me at mark@scots42tour.co.uk.
All the best Mark
