Scotland Draw It Out

Scotland Under 19s drew 1-1 with Turkey at Dumbarton last night and so face a deciding match against Macedonia tomorrow (Wednesday night) to see which team progresses from the group. Last night, in front of an enthusiastic crowd of 1,163, Scotland surged into an early lead with Hibs' Scott Brown heading the opening goal in five minutes from a Robbie Foy cross. Despite missing chances, the Scots were encouraged to see Dogan Sengul sent off just before half time for kicking David Paterson.

However, even down to ten men, the Turks slowly clawed their way back into the match. They equalised in the 65 minute from the penalty spot after Steven Low had fouled Ozturk. Inan fired home past Reid. The draw leaves Scotland level with Turkey on four points, but Scotland must face Macedonia at Hamilton on Wednesday (7.30 pm). The Scots need a draw to finish at least second. However, the Macedonians can also go through if they win, after defeating the Faroes 4-0 last night. Scotland coach Ross Mathie has called for a large and noisy support to cheer the youngsters home.
