We Could Be Heroes

Holland defender Joris Mathijsen expects Scotland to be looking to be defending in depth in today's World Cup qualifier at the Amsterdam ArenA. Bert van Marwijk's team have a 100% record from their first three Group Nine games and lead the group by five points from Scotland and Iceland in joint second place. Mathijsen believes George Burley's side would be more than happy to leave the Dutch capital with a point. Hamburg's Mathijsen said: "
They will play with 10 men behind the ball. It's quite logical, They haven't gained that many points yet, so they come here for a point.. Of course we speak about the strong and weak points of opposing teams. But we must (mainly) all look at ourselves. If we are in a good shape, then we will win on Saturday. The roof will be closed and the field is good. So the conditions for a good result are there."

Blackburn defender Andre Ooijer looks set to play after taking part in full training yesterday, while Liverpool forward also Dirk Kuyt also emerged unscathed from yesterday's practice session following a slight thigh problem. Ajax right-back Gregory van der Wiel could be handed a second Oranje cap by Van Marwijk after making his debut in last month's 1-1 friendly draw in Tunisia. Van der Wielsaid: "
Then I had to think back to the time where I played on the street with the name of Robin van Persie on my shirt. In the middle of Amsterdam, when I was 15, I always wanted to be Van Persie and in Tunisia we were all of a sudden playing in the same team."

Meanwhile, Scotland's Christophe Berra has dubbed the game as "
the biggest game of his life" after being catapulted into Burley's line-up. Wolves defender Berra has yet to start a full international but injuries to Stephen McManus and David Weir have left manager Burley no choice but to go for the ex-Hearts captain. Despite admitting to feeling nervous, Berra, who has three caps, has vowed to grasp his big chance. Berra, who joined Wolves from Hearts for £2.3million in January, said: "Yes, there will be nerves, but nerves are a good thing for a footballer. If you didn't suffer some nerves before a game like this then you wouldn't be human. It will be a big experience for me playing against some world-class players, but challenges like these can only improve you as a player. This is my chance so it will be up to me to take it. I'm really looking forward to it."

Asked about the prospect of facing Van Persie and Kuyt, he said: "
I'll just play the game as I see it. Holland have terrific talent and no doubt will have some tricks up their sleeves, but I'll just have to deal with that as it happens. It won't just be down to me to keep them quiet - there will be another 10 Scotland players out there with jobs to do. If we work together as a team, and stay compact and solid, then I believe we have a right good chance. But it's fair to say this will be the biggest game of my life."
