It Is Not Who You Know

Falkirk's Darren Barr continues to have Scotland ambitions and hopes that team-mate Steven Pressley does not exert any significant influence on him being named in Scotland manager George Burley's squad for the World Cup qualifier against Holland at the end of the month. Pressley continues to combine the role of coach role with the national team with defensive duties at Falkirk, where he plays alongside Barr, so has lots of time to see just how well his captain in playing. Barr earned his first cap in a 0-0 friendly draw against Northern Ireland at Hampden Park in August and wants to add to that but on his own merits.

Barr is the first Bairns player to win a full Scotland cap since John White in 1959 and is hoping to be selected for the March 28 game against the Dutch. The Falkirk skipper was called upon to model the new Scotland away kit which may indicate he is in Burley's plans. Barr acknowledged the influence Pressley has had on him since he joined the club in January, but is keen to progress his international career but on the strength of what he can deliver to the side. He said: "
Steven is a good, experienced professional and you can see that in the way he trains. If I can learn from him then that would be great, obviously. But I would hate to think that people were saying that I only got the call because of him. I would like to think my form is okay."
