Craig Brown Launches Petition Against Team GB

Who actually supports the idea of a joint GB football team?
A recent poll of ScottishFitba.net showed that nearly 72% of visitors were against the idea of a joint GB football team. The mood of the site has been picked up by others and SNP MSP Christine Grahame has welcomed the launch of a Scottish Parliamentary petition fronted by former Scotland manager Craig Brown opposing the creation of a GB football team for the 2012 London Olympics.
Ms Grahame, who helped Brown launch the petition, said: "Craig Brown has a wealth of experience in both Scottish and international football and it is an honour to help support him in launching this petition. The Labour party, who seem hell bent on pushing forward the threat of a GB football team, should pay heed to his warnings. FIFA cannot guarantee Scotland's footballing independence if a UK football team goes ahead. The football authorities of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are opposed to a British Olympic side and have reaffirmed that they will not risk their status as independent football nations. Significantly, all four home nations' supporters associations are actively working together to oppose this irresponsible idea. With former Scotland coach Craig Brown is to front the 'No to Team GB' campaign, I hope this petition will make those in the Labour party and London listen to the Scottish people and reject this ludicrous idea."
The petition reads as follows:
Great Britain Football team Raised by: Craig Brown on 17 December 2008
Calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to consider what impact the creation of a Great Britain football team at the Olympics or other sporting event would have on the promotion and support it and other public bodies such as sportscotland provide for football as a means of encouraging healthy lifestyle as well as generating economic and social benefits.
