Winter Draws On

C:WindowsTempphpBEA7.tmpStewart Regan is still willing to consider the possibility of introducing a winter break in Scottish football. The SFA Chief Executive offered his views following the inaugural convention at Hampden Park on Wednesday when the introduction of a winter break was one of the primary topics up for discussion. Regan believes such a move would benefit Scottish football given the harsh climate in the country during winter months.

Regan said: "It has been on the agenda before. We have discussed it a number of times and certainly the grassroots game, the women’s game in particular and some of the youth leagues have moved to, not exactly summer football, but an extended winter break. A mid-season winter break is something we should take back to our fixtures working group. A number of people have mentioned that. It is very difficult in Scotland because the winter starts in October and we have still had snow at the end of February in the past. Clearly we would have to manage fixture congestion if we were to do it but it is something that might give us more scope and flexibility and perhaps give us opportunities to do other things in that mid-season break."
