The seemingly never ending saga over league reconstruction will now continue in the New Year. The clubs met today try to make progress with plans that the SPL and SFL clubs would form a working party to push ahead with attempts to revamp the structure of the Scottish game. There is a fundamental difference on how things should look in the future with SPL clubs unanimously backing the concept of two top leagues of 12 which split into three divisions of eight after 22 games.

SFL clubs had suggested a 16-10-16 structure but chief executive David Longmuir was encouraged by the "
common ground" established after talks in early December. The SFA's professional game board is due to meet again on 30 January to discuss league reconstruction.
