Glenn Loovens is playing the innocent card before the SFA look to see if he was guilty when injuring Maurice Edu.

Celtic defender Glenn Loovens is at a loss to understand why the SFA review panel has been asked to look at the incident with Rangers midfielder Maurice Edu. The Dutchman's studs clearly caught Edu on the back of his knee as his foot came down after making a clearance during Celtic's 1-0 defeat at Ibrox on 9 May. The panel will look at the video footage to decide whether there was deliberate intent on Loovens part and if the has a case to answer with the SFA's disciplinary committee. The American needed treatment but came back on to continue taking part in the game. The review panel is set to make a ruling early next week but Loovens expects to be cleared.

The former Cardiff defender said: "
I'm a hard player but also fair. I just went in for the ball and at some point my leg had to come down to land on the ground. There's no way I tried to hurt the player and I did not try to catch him deliberately. Edu went off for treatment and I spoke to him as soon as he came back on. I said sorry, asked if he was okay and he told me he was fine. I really don't know what all the fuss is about. It will be looked into but I'd be surprised if any action was taken against me."
