We Don't Deserve To Stay In Europe

By Ed_ScottishFitba
Wednesday, 25th November 2009
Kris Boyd may rue missing an open goal last night but he does not think that Rangers deserve to be in Europe anyway

rangers jpegRangers' Kris Boyd accepted he should have scored in last night's 2-0 Champions League defeat by Stuttgart at Ibrox but accepted that these things happen. The Rangers side are now out of Europe as there will not even be the consolation of a Europa League spot for Walter Smith's side after the visitors won with goals from midfielders Sebastian Rudy and Zdravko Kuzmanovic. Boyd was starting his first Champions League game for the club, but put a header over the bar from a Kenny Miller cross when a goal looked certain.

He said: "That's football. These things happen. I would be more disappointed if the chances weren't coming. I didn't take them tonight but I'm sure that if they come again on Saturday against Aberdeen I look forward to putting them in the net. We have one game left, we go to Sevilla, it's going to be tough but you put that Rangers shirt on with pride and we need to go there and put on a show. We need to pick ourselves up and we have a chance to stretch our lead in the SPL on Saturday."

Boyd was scathing about Rangers' home performances in Group C so far, in which they have lost all three games at Ibrox to sit at the bottom of the table with two points. The loss to Stuttgart followed 4-1 home defeats by both Sevilla and Unirea Urziceni. The former Kilmarnock striker said: "If you look at our performances at home we don't deserve to be in the Europa League. We weren't good enough against Sevilla, the Unirea game was pathetic and we weren't good enough again tonight."
