| Rangers want to see how Georgie Welcome will match up to expectations |
 Walter Smith has brought Honduran striker Georgie Welcome to Ibrox on trial. Welcome has been on Smith's' list of potential new players for some time and assistant manager Ally McCoist took the opportunity to watch him in action at this summer's World Cup. Rangers are in need of striking reinforcements after losing Kris Boyd to Gordon Strachan's Middleborough. Welcome will be handed the chance to win a move to Ibrox even though no fans or management he will be able to see him play in any of their pre-season games because of work permit problems.
Welcome, who plays for Honduran club Motagua and is priced at around £600,000, has scored three goals in 14 games for his country. Smith said: "Georgie Welcome will be coming to join us next week on trial. We can't play him in the games because of the work permit situation but we can look at him training. We will see what happens and then take it from there." |
