Views From Abroad

Oh for the day when a sacked Manager does not accept the extra £10,000 for a confidentiality clause and we get some truth.

The Combination of a benefactor owner who has no day to day interest in football and a Chairman with no financial stake in the Club has led to an unitended but anavoidable outcome at Hibs. To invariably take delight and a certain smugness of appointing usually, untried Managers is a waste of time.

Value for money, zero compensation appointments are business decisions not football decisions.

The discussion, if any, at Board level can never have included answers to the desperately important question -"and what success in top flight management in Scotland?" John Hughes could point to semi finals and cost efficiency at Falkirk , Colin Calderwood had a reasonable sub top flight record in England, but was available for a reason.

The time is for prospective Managers to ask questions of the Board and after appointment to relay the answers to the Fans.

Are you prepared to allow me a bad season and allow time for improvement?
What is success for Hibs this season? Next season?
Am I appointed to run the team and make my own appointments for my coaching staff?
Can I sell when I want to or when the Board says so?
How much money can I spend?
Do I have to sell before I can buy?
If we are relegated and I get sacked, will the Chairman resign?

Watch out for another "surprise" appointment not on the Fans' or Bookies' radar, together with a smug expression on the Chairman's face and platitudes like the following flowing from the new appointee:

  • Hibs are to good a team to be in their current position

  • There is a great team spirit here

  • The set up here is fantastic

  • Hibs are huge club

  • I am looking for a challenge and i know this is the right appointment for me

  • I just want to get down to business on the training pitch

  • This is a results business and that is what my first focus will be on

I sincerely hope I am wrong about this all.
