Falkirk players will be wondering if they will be coming back to pre-season training led by John Hughes.

Now that the season and Cup Final are over, Falkirk are looking to next season. With speculation linking manager John Hughes with the vacancy at Easter Road and Campbell Christie stepping down as Chairman it must be unsettling for player who are looking for a new contract. Stevie Lovell is just one of several Falkirk players who will be chapping on Hughes door this morning to see what, if anything, is on offer. Lovell, who signed from Aberdeen last summer, said: "I am out of contract like a lot of the boys and I'm not sure who is staying and who is going. I will speak to the manager and see what he wants to do. I don't see why I shouldn't stay, I've enjoyed every minute of being here. We stayed up on the last day of the season and we got to a cup final and another semi-final, so things couldn't have gone better. There are young players coming through. Guys like Scott Arfield and Tam Scobbie are brilliant and there are other young players who weren't even playing at Hampden. It has always been that way at Falkirk and so the future looks bright."

Lovell, like the rest of the Falkirk squad who appeared at Hampden is still feeling a huge sense of frustration. The Bairns dominated for long spells against Rangers, with former Ibrox winger Neil McCann clipping the bar in the first half and Lovell driving against the post in the second half as they pressed for the equaliser. However, Rangers held on to secure the league and cup double, leaving Falkirk still looking for their first Scottish Cup final victory since 1957. Lovell said: "It was hugely frustrating because it was the best we had played in a long time. If we had played like that all season we wouldn't have been sitting near the bottom. But we can walk away knowing we were the better team. We didn't create a lot of chances but we were the better team. On a personal note I was disappointed in my performance but I thought the boys were outstanding. They gave everything and it took a wonder goal from Nacho to win the game for them. The manager was delighted with the way we played and told us we could walk away with our heads held high."
