Holding up the whole league puts pressure on you to get the points to move to safety. Will Clyde or Airdrie United wilt under the pressure?
Clyde manager John Brown has agreed to extended his contract with the Bully Wee until 2011 but he has to contend with the news that midfielder Stuart Kettlewell has sustained a fractured rib and could be out until the New Year. This is bad news ahead of today's game against bottom club Airdrie United. The former Queen's Park player had to be taken off at half-time in Saturday's 2-0 Homecoming Cup win over Montrose. He was sent for x-rays which showed a break that will keep him sidelined for up to a month. Brown said: "Unfortunately Stuart has fractured a rib and will be out for three to four weeks. It is a blow to the team as he has been performing well and we will miss his energy and drive from midfield. Injuries are, however, part and parcel of the game and we just have to get on with it." The news is slightly better regarding Neil McGregor and Brown said: "Neil is improving but is a couple of weeks away yet. He'll begin running at training this week and hopefully he'll not suffer any reaction and will be back for selection soon."
Airdrie boss Kenny Black will be hoping his side can change places with Clyde after today's game and has urged his team to have more self-belief in attack. The bottom side have only managed to score two goals in their last five league games. He said: "I would say this game is a must-not-lose but the result on Saturday won't determine anything. We have seen from day one just how quickly this division can change. Belief is a word I have used all season and we need to show more of it going forward. We need everyone pulling together now." There will be a change of armband for United as captain Paul Lovering is still injured and will miss out today.
