Two Confident Sides Meet At Pittodrie

aberdeenZander Diamond and Yoann Folly will be given every opportunity to prove their fitness ahead of the Co-operative Insurance Cup quarter-final between Aberdeen and Falkirk. Defender Diamond and midfielder Folly injured their ankles in Saturday's 4-2 win over Hibs at Pittodrie, while defender Andy Considine is struggling after injuring a knee in the warm-up at the weekend. Nikola Vujadinovic missed the Hibs match with a hamstring injury and remains absent, while Peter Pawlett (broken toe) and long-term casualty Fraser Fyvie are out. Dons manager Mark McGhee is hopeful that his side can take the opportunity to move into the last four of the competition, claiming it is a rare chance in a career. He said: "The only semi-final I've been in as a manager was when I was at Wolves and we were beaten by Arsenal, so you don't get that many opportunities as a player or a manager. It's a huge incentive for everyone and an opportunity for some payback for the supporters. Over the recent period they've been very patient and understanding of our trials and tribulations and it would be nice to give something back. I think a Premier League side should be expected to come through but we know how difficult a game it will be. We're not under any illusions as to the difficulty of the game. But we had a positive result on Saturday and a positive performance and we've got to take that in with us. I think Falkirk will win their league. I think they are an SPL club in waiting and they find themselves out of the Premier League unluckily.''

FalkirklogoFalkirk will be without three players for the trip north. Defender Tom Scobbie remains sidelined with a knee injury, winger Jack Campton is struggling with an ankle knock and Tam McManus is a long-term absentee. Despite the trio's absence it is a confident Bairns squad that heads to Aberdee looking to repeat the performance that knocked Hearts out in the last round. Manager Steven Pressley said: "Our performance in the 5-1 win at Queen of the South on Saturday was excellent. I`m sure that display will have given Aberdeen plenty to think about. Our confidence is good and it is a game that we are looking to win.''
